"mulher (woman)"
2017

plant/pattern
[wooden board, wax encaustic, glass beads, plastic beads]
12 x 12 x 1 in

inspired by the shelf lichen learned about the summer after my freshman year in a secluded, no electricity, nature camp in northern Wisconsin, this piece is about exploration and the female being. for me, it surrounds the idea of 'woman.'

"human"
2018

artist inspired
raúl de nieves
two styrofoam heads, acrylic paint, glass beads, plastic beads, wood beads, copper wire
56 x 24 x 26.5 cm

this piece, inspired by raúl de nieves, a mexican-american sculptor was almost purely an exploration of technique, texture, experiment, acrylic paint, yes paste, and my ability to arrange two styrofoam heads into a visually interesting piece. it has inspired many of my other pieces, and while i don't necessarily love some of the messier details, i appreciate my willingness to explore.

"contain"
2017

recycled material
[cardboard box, acrylic paint, wood beads]
3.5 x 4.75 x 1.5 in

i ended up surrounding the project on the word "contain." what does it mean to contain? how does it relate to me? how does it relate to humans? the point of the project is that our brains are "containers" of infinite thought and creativity; infinity is contained within a finite container. i find this idea fascinating and i attempted to explore it through this piece. (i did revise the piece but i did it before i was aware i had to take photos of the original - i refined the painting and reglued the beads more cleanly).
